When it comes to actually mailing, many of the bigger online marketers are doing this. They are doing really well by sending physical things to their lists because it’s something that is different. There are a lot of different benefits to using a tactic like this and I’ve even heard of some websites that have built a membership completely off of offline methods. I do think, even if you’re new, that is is something to learn about and plan for in the future as you grow your site and list.
One of the most obvious benefits is the fact that the direct competition is non-existant. By direct competition, I mean the other websites that you are going up against won’t be sending mail as well. It’s a wonderful way to make your business stand out and get noticed.
But when you do a mailing you are competing for the base attention of your prospects. After all it’s hard enough to get regular mail read by people these days as most is considered junk. But that is really one reason why you want to use a postcard because you can have your headline easily viewable without the prospect having to open anything.
When mailing, if you get your message read, you can almost guarantee a good response. It’s something different and if the person recognizes your name from the online emails, it can really build a relationship. It feels good getting mail from people you know, it almost makes you feel special.
However, you have to remember that it can cost quite a bit to get a mailing out the door. A typical bulk mailing like this can easily be a couple thousand dollars depending on how big your list is. So don’t worry about this tactic just yet unless you have a great relationship with your list and a good offer to send them as well. Plus if you have a good relationship, you can actually hint at the mailing and build up quite a bit of anticipation for it.
Just keep this tactic in the back of your mind as it’s a great way to build your business when the time is right.
